Ellie & Joe’s Awesome Wedding at The Red Barn, Norfolk

Hello! Hello, and welcome to this wedding blog post of my first visit to the wonderful The Red Barn in Kings Lynn, Norfolk.

After Ellie & Joe initially enquired with me about my availability, we had and absolutely brilliant ‘Zoom’ meeting to chat about their plans for their day and to get to know each other. I knew that this wedding was going to be fun because both Ellie & Joe were brimming with lovely personality and were really looking forward to a relaxed and chilled out wedding.

My day started at the beautiful Coach House at Lodge Farm for bridal Prep when I got to meet the bridal party who were excitedly getting ready for the amazing day that lay ahead. It was lovely to work with Josh Mills ‘That Video Guy’ as we captured the morning unfolding. The bridesmaid’s ‘first look’ was a wonderful moment to capture.

I love capturing the guests and wedding party arrivals; the excited and nervous hugs and kisses and excited anticipation…

The Red Barn is a charming, spacious and an absolutely downright stunning venue for your wedding. With the high and exquisitely-designed ceilings (they don’t make barns like that anymore!), it really is a striking place to tie the knot. A beautifully dressed room by my talented friends at Loubear Events, ready for the ceremony and for the wedding breakfast.

There’s not loads of light in the barn from a photography point of view so I used a touch of flash for the ceremony to keep the quality of those all-important photographs very high. Modern cameras are very good at dealing with low light but to get a really clean and colourful image, I don't think that you can beat a pop of carefully-used off-camera flash (sorry - that was a bit geeky!) Anyway, the photographs look great! Once the ceremony is over, I positioned myself to capture more of those wonderful candid moments - the hugs, the congratulations - all the natural documentary wedding photography moments.

There’s some lovely countryside areas within the grounds for family, bridesmaids and groomsmen photographs and the love the vintage coach as a backdrop.

Absolutely stunning meadow flowers make for a gorgeous scene for some super-relaxed portraits of the newlyweds, the blue skies and the yellow meadow flowers. I loved photographing Ellie and Joe in this very natural 5 minute grab, just before the speeches.

The speeches were seriously memorable and here is just a very very very small selection of the photographs that I delivered which were full of laughter and emotion.

After the speeches, there was little bit of relaxed, chilled out reflecting time. Time for taking a stroll in the venue grounds, enjoying the setting sun. At this point, we spent just a few minutes taking some romantic couples portraits

I absolutely love photographing the evening reception and I think that the first dance photographs at The Red Barn are so beautiful, with the grande scene of the high wooden beams and spacious dancefloor. The perfect mix of light and dark for that romantic feel.

I stay later…

I stay later on your wedding day than most, I really think it’s important to capture the moves of your guests on the dancefloor when people are feeling relaxed and fun. That way, I can capture their monumental dancefloor moves!

We finished off with sparkers which is such a cool way to finish a wedding story. This one was taken at about 9:45pm, using the very last light of the summer evening. What a great way to end the day!
