A Christmas Wedding at Barnsdale Lodge, Oakham, Leicestershire

For a wedding photographer, the prospect of a Christmas wedding leads to hope of snow. When it does snow on the wedding day, a Christmas wedding is just that little bit more magical. I love taking wedding photographs in the snow - they’re just beautiful aren’t they?

Barnsdale Lodge in Rutland, Britain’s smallest county, is a stunning choice of wedding venue. Nestled close to the shores of the picturesque Rutland Water, The Lodge was a perfect snowy retreat to celebrate the marriage of Darryl and Lindsay.

My photography day began at the family home, where Lindsay, the bride, her mother and he bridesmaids were to get ready for the big day. A warming lounge fire helped the family dog to relax amongst the busy wedding preparations, as the wedding party enjoyed the hair styling, the make up and some slightly nervous and extremely excited sips of wedding day prosecco.

My next stop was the village church, the ground under a blanket of fresh, crisp snow. Perfect.

Thinking better of standing around on the cold, we decided that the best course of action was to take some family photographs in the comfort of The Lodge. As you can see from the photographs, the party got into full swing soon after that.

I love snow. I love snow and weddings. I love Christmas, snow and weddings! I love Christmas, snow, weddings and photographs!
