The Hindu Wedding of Victoria & Krishan at The Old Cow Shed Melton Mowbray

When Victoria and Krishan contacted me in December 2022 about their wedding they told me that it was going to be a wedding day with a difference which obviously sparkled my intrigue!

It transpired that the wedding at The Old Cow Shed in Melton Mowbray would involve two ceremonies in one day! First, a traditional Hindu wedding ceremony and a later one in the afternoon which was the a civil ceremony so effectively two weddings in one day!

Well, I was of course up for that… How exciting!

This post will tell the story of the Hindu Wedding on the day and I’ll create a separate post about the civil wedding later on. You’ve got to love Aisan Wedding ceremonies, full of colour, style, tradition and ritual.

My day started upstairs in the bridal suite for prep; the jewelry, shoes and accessories were stunning and I loved capturing that detail.

The guests started to arrive with lots of hugs and smiles on show then it was time for the groom’s procession which was an exciting, colourful event accompanied by the traditional dhol drums and the vibrant smoke bombs!

Then it was time for the bride’s arrival, ready for the Hindi wedding ceremony. The groom couldn’t see her just yet because his view was shielded until the bride entered the mundap. The blanket came down and their eyes met! What a moment!

When it comes to family group photographs you can’t beat the look of the mudap as the perfect frame. I love how these photographs look with a dramatic clean and crisp pop of flash. After the ceremony, cue more hugs and kisses - the celebrations begun!

I’ve learned that it’s traditional during Hindu weddings for someone to play a trick on the groom by hiding his shoes and as you can see, I located the culprit!

It would be rude not to get some bride and groom portraits in front of the iconic and famous Old Cow Shed ‘Till Death do Us Part’ mural situated in The Courtyard where the wedding breakfast and speeches took place.

The Evening Celebrations

This wedding was a little different because it didn’t contain the traditional late night, dance-till-you drop. Instead, because both weddings on the day were quite early in the day, it was decided that people would retire with their memories of the day a little earlier.

Victoria and Krishan weren’t keen on the spectacle of the first dance but before we left, I suggested a private first dance, just for the camera in the gorgeous cow shed. I used a little colour in my flash to provide a lovely purple background, matching an aspect of the couples’ colour scheme.
